Communities live on paid memberships, and payment processors are not always comfortable with communities. The Cryptain add-on for XenForo 2 lets members pay for user upgrades in crypto, and applies the upgrade automatically once the payment is confirmed.
Before you start
- XenForo 2.2 or newer, with admin access.
- A Cryptain store for the forum, with an API key and its webhook secret.
1. Install the add-on
Download the XenForo add-on and upload the contents of its upload folder to your forum's root. In the admin control panel open Add-ons, find Cryptain crypto payments and click Install.
2. Create a payment profile
Go to Setup → Payment profiles → Add payment profile and choose Cryptain. Enter:
- your Cryptain address, for example
https://cryptain.net - the public key and secret key of your store's API key
- the store's webhook secret
3. Connect the webhook
In Cryptain, edit the store and set Webhook URL to:
https://your-forum.example/payment_callback.php?_xfProvider=cryptain
4. Offer it on your upgrades
Open Users → User upgrades, edit each upgrade you sell and tick the Cryptain payment profile. Members now see a crypto option when they upgrade.
What happens behind the scenes
When a member chooses crypto, the add-on creates a Cryptain invoice for the upgrade price and sends them to the checkout. After they pay, Cryptain notifies your forum. The add-on checks the webhook signature, then reads the invoice back from the Cryptain API and compares the amount and currency with the purchase before it applies the upgrade. A refunded invoice reverses the upgrade.
Renewals
XenForo user upgrades paid in crypto do not renew by themselves, because nobody can pull money from a crypto wallet. Members renew by paying again when their upgrade is about to expire; XenForo's own reminder emails cover that.
