Cryptain wants to be a payment service that honest businesses can rely on and criminals avoid. This policy explains the checks we run on merchants and payments, and what we do when something looks wrong.
1. Our commitments
- We do not knowingly serve anyone involved in money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions evasion, fraud or other crime.
- We check who our merchants are, understand what they sell and watch for activity that does not fit.
- We keep records and cooperate with lawful requests from authorities.
- We have a named person responsible for compliance, train our staff and review these controls regularly.
2. Knowing our merchants
Every merchant gives us their name, email, business details and website when they sign up. Depending on the settlement mode, volumes and risk, we may also ask for:
- a government-issued photo ID and a matching selfie for the account holder;
- proof of address;
- company registration documents, and the names of directors and anyone who owns or controls 25% or more of the business;
- information about what you sell, where your customers are and how much you expect to process;
- where the funds come from, for larger or unusual amounts.
Until a check is complete, we may limit live payments, withdrawals or other features. We repeat checks when details change or when activity changes significantly.
3. Screening
We screen merchants and their owners against international sanctions lists and lists of politically exposed persons. Where we have the data to do so, we also check payment and withdrawal addresses against lists of addresses linked to sanctions, theft, scams or illicit markets.
4. Monitoring
We watch payments and withdrawals for patterns that can signal abuse, such as sudden spikes in volume, many payments just below limits, funds moving straight through an account, payments from high-risk sources, or activity that does not match the business described. Some checks are automatic; a person reviews anything that is flagged.
5. What we may do
- Ask you questions or for documents.
- Delay or hold a payment credit or withdrawal while we review it.
- Refuse a transaction, close a store or close an account.
- Report suspicious activity to the relevant authority. The law may prevent us from telling you that we have done so.
6. Own-wallet settlement
When payments go straight to your own wallet, we never hold the funds. We still verify merchants, screen addresses where possible and may stop serving an account that breaks this policy.
7. Records
We keep identity records, transaction records and the reasons for our decisions for at least the period the law requires, commonly five to seven years after the relationship ends.
8. Your part
Answer our questions honestly and promptly, tell us when your business changes, and never use Cryptain to receive funds for someone else. Breaking this policy is a breach of our Terms of Service.
